Children’s clothes need to cope with real life, so every pattern has been refined over years of wear by my own five children as they grew up, and my nieces still put each new design through its paces. They’re soft enough for sensitive skin and tough enough for the playground, with details like adjustable straps, turn-up cuffs and generous hems on many designs. And they’re well made enough to hand down. I also choose my embroidery colours to match the contrast fabric, so every piece is a considered combination.
If my nieces can’t happily romp about in it, it doesn’t leave the studio.
When the fabric’s gone, that combination is gone for good.
I make everything from roll-end fabric, so each fabric and colour combination is limited. Once the last metre is cut, that look closes, with no waiting lists and no second runs. A pattern may return one day, but in a different fabric with different embroidery.
