Welcome to Penelope Jane — handmade children's clothing designed, cut and sewn in my Nottingham studio.
Many fabrics I use are sourced as a roll end —material that would otherwise go to landfill, rescued and given a much better life as something beautiful. Because each roll is finite, every Penelope Jane range is genuinely limited edition. Once the fabric is gone, that design is gone forever, making each piece truly one of a kind.
Occasionally an item may be cut and ready to finish just for you, meaning there could be a short wait while I stitch your order — I'll always be upfront about this at checkout.
I believe children's clothes should keep up with children's lives. Every fabric I rescue is chosen not just for its story, but because it's soft enough for sensitive skin and tough enough for playground adventures. Many of my designs feature adjustable straps, turn-up cuffs and clever waistbands that expand as your child grows — meaning fewer wardrobe clear-outs and more value for your family. And when a garment has been loved to its limit, the quality of our construction means it can be passed on proudly to the next child in line. My playfully inclusive range includes gender-neutral styles finished with machine embroidery that gives each piece its own personality. If my own children wouldn't happily romp about in it, it doesn't leave the studio.
When it's gone, it's gone.
Because I work with roll-end fabrics, every design has a natural lifespan. Once the last metre is cut, that range closes — for good. There are no waiting lists and no second runs.
If something catches your eye, it's worth acting on it. Every order helps save fabric from landfill, supports British making, and puts something genuinely special in your child's wardrobe.
